Recruitment Tactic: Internal Posting
What? An internal posting is a posting which can be accessed through a special link by Rice employees, either from your department, school/division or throughout the university. If the internal posting is limited to just your department or school/division, then external applicants will not be able to view the opening on the website. Postings for current Rice employees only will be posted publicly but restricted to current employees only. These postings can be open to external candidates at a later date, if need be.
Why? This is a great way to identify the key talent within the Rice community. By offering promotional roles to internal candidates, the departments, schools and divisions would foster a sense of loyalty, engagement and long-term satisfaction. In addition, employees tend to refer others more frequently when their own career has grown within the organization. This is also a great alternative to requesting a posting waiver, allowing you, the hiring manager, to assess current available talent and giving internal candidates an opportunity to express their interest in open positions.
How? When submitting a position for posting, in the comments section please note that this posting should be posted internally. Once the position is posted, you will receive an email from email@example.com with the link for candidates to apply. Share that link with all employees within your department or school/division via email, announce the opening during any staff meetings when appropriate and post the hard copy of the job description with the link in the central place within your department, school/division where all your employees can view it. If this internal posting is for all university employees, the position will be announced by HR on the weekly “ALLDEPTS” email.
