Staff Market Salary Review Request Instructions

To request a salary comparison of a specific staff job to similar jobs within Rice and the external market, complete the Staff Market Salary Review Request Form.  Common reasons to submit a Staff Market Salary Review Request include:

  • To support a budget enhancement request*
  • To support the strategic planning process
  • To address or prevent internal equity concerns
  • To retain employee(s) with exceptional performance
  • To retain employee(s) in jobs where the market is competitive
  • To ensure hiring salaries are competitive
  • To ensure a position that has changed due to a department restructuring and/or the addition of new duties is paid fairly and competitively

    * Please submit all Staff Market Salary Review Requests related to the FY10 Budget Planning Process to Compensation by September 30, 2008 so the summary may be returned to you no later than January 2009.

Directions

1.  Complete one (1) Staff Market Salary Review Request Form  per position/job title.  (For example, if you would like Compensation to review the Staff Assistant and Accounting Assistant I jobs in your area, you will need to submit 2 forms.)

2.  Review and update the job description for each position/job title. To expedite this process, you may use the abbreviated version of the traditional Job Description form: Job Description Summary.

3.  Submit the Staff Market Salary Review Request Form and updated job description to Angela Lipari, Sr. Compensation Analyst, via email (alipari@rice.edu).

Please Note: All requests should be routed through the appropriate approval channels for your area prior to submission to HR.   Compensation will only accept requests submitted by a department, school, or division leader with the authority to request salary changes for staff members.
