Seasonal Flu Shots for Faculty, Staff & Retirees

Rice Human Resources is again providing FREE seasonal flu shots for benefits eligible faculty, staff and Rice retirees. Non-benefits eligible faculty and staff and all spouses/domestic partners can also get seasonal flu shots at cost ($25 per shot) by paying for the shot at the time of service (cash, check or credit card accepted).

For Fall of 2009, seasonal flu shots are scheduled for the following dates/times/locations:

  • Monday, October 12, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Kelley Lounge of the RMC/Ley Student Center
  • Friday, October 16, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, FE&P Training Room (next to the Facilities, Engineering and Planning Building)
  • Friday, October 23, 8:00 am to Noon, Kelley Lounge of the RMC/Ley Student Center

Shots are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tip: Lines tend to be shorter during the lunch hour.

Please read this information prior to the seasonal flu shot administration.  Have additional questions?  See this Q&A document

Here is more information on how to fight the flu.

Note:  If you are pregnant, you will need to provide an original doctor's note (no fax copies accepted) stating that you may receive the flu shot to be inoculated at Rice.

If you cannot make one of the sessions above or if you want to vaccinate your other family members, please coordinate a seasonal flu shot visit with a nurse in your doctor's office -- Aetna will pay 100% of the cost of the vaccine and administration by a nurse (meaning no copayment!) for anyone covered in Rice's health insurance.

Note, also, the CDC key facts regarding the seasonal flu vaccine:  http://www.cdc.gov/flu/keyfacts.htm

Swine Flu

If you are concerned about Swine Flu (also called H1N1 Flu), visit the CDC's website.  If you are eligible for the H1N1 flu vaccine, please contact your primary care physician or OB/GYN.  Aetna should pay 100% of the cost of the vaccine if you make an appointment with your physician's nurse to receive the shot.  If you see the doctor, you will be charged an office visit copayment.

For more information on H1N1 Flu, Aetna has a nice online tutorial.
