Rice University has strict enrollment deadlines. The following chart details the enrollment deadlines:
|Event||Time Limit to Enroll|
|New hire||No more than 30 days from your hire date|
|Qualifying change in status||No more than 30 days from your change in status|
|Adding or dropping medical insurance due to Medicaid or CHIP enrollment||No more than 60 days from your change in status|
|Annual enrollment||April 6, 2020 through April 24, 2020 (usually in April of each year)|
For new hires benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date. If the hire date is the first of the month, then the benefits are effective on the hire date. Most changes in status result in coverage effective on the first day of the month following the date the change is made (or that day, if the first business day of the month).
If the change in status is the birth or adoption of a child, coverage will be made effective as the date of the birth or adoption.
Changes made during annual enrollment in April are effective July 1st with the new plan year.
